Boys Hostel inauguration 15-12-2017

New block of Boys Hostel was inagurated on 15-12-2017 by Dr. R.V. Prasad Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, KVAFSU, Bidar accompanied by the Hon'ble members of the board, KVAFSU, Bidar - Shri. Nagabhushan Kamthane, Shri Mallikarjun Biradar, Shri. Iresh B. Anchatgeri, Smt. Lumbini Goutam.

Dr. H. Shivananda Murthy, Regitrar, KVAFSU Bidar was also present during the inauguration. Dr. M.N. Venugopal, Dean (Fisheries) presided over the function.

 


Fish Culture in Vented Dams

Dr M N Venugopal, Dean, College of Fisheries inaugurated the training program on "Fish Culture in Vented Dams" by releasing the fish in to an aquarium at KVK on 05.01.2018. The He said that there are more than 900 vented dams in the district and it is expected to be doubled in this year. These unconventional water bodies can be effectively utilized for stunted fish seed production or feedbased aquaculture using fast growing varieties. Mrs Mamatha Gatty, Ex President, Zilla Panchayat, DK, Dr Shivakumar Magada, Head, KVK and Dr Sushmitha Rao, ADF, Mangalore were present. Dr Magada said, in the first phase of the study, these vented dams will be stocked with grass carp and common carp at 1:3 ratio and two of the vented dams will be stocked with koi carps. There 50 user group members from five vented dams. They were sensitized on general fish farming in these short seasonal water bodies.


Fresher’s Day

The tradition of welcoming the freshers into the fishco family was organized by the outgoing final year B. F. Sc students on 27th October, 2017.  Dr S. M. Shivaprakash, Director of Extension, KVAFSU was the chief guest and Dean, Dr. M. N. Venugopal, was the president of the function. The chief guest recalled his sweet memories of his student life and made a comparison with the present day opportunities for the students.  Later the newly admitted first year B. F. Sc students participated in cultural events to showcase their talents and also to get integrated with the new students.


Teacher’s Day

Teacher’s day was celebrated on 14th September, 2017 as a combined event of staff and students. Principal, University College, Mangaluru, Dr M. A. Udayakumar, was the chief guest and Dr. M. N. Venugopal, Dean (Fisheries) presided over the function.


National Fish Farmers’ Day 2017

College of Fisheries, Mangalore, ICAR-KrishiVigyan Kendra, Dakshina Kannada and Department of Fisheries, Government of Karnataka jointly organized a “National Fish Farmers’ Day 2017 ” at Prof. HPC Shetty Hall, College of Fisheries. There were 120 farmers from different parts of Karnataka registered for the said program. Sri PramodMadhwaraj, Minister for Fisheries, Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Karnataka inaugurated the program by releasing the Amur carp into aquarium. Minister said Government is framing a separate fisheries policy which will be implemented soon. He also insisted to take up more research on fish culture in saline and alkaline soils. The book edited by Dr Jayraj E G, Professor and Head, Department of Aquaculture and Dr ShivakumarMagada, Professor and Head, ICAR-KVK, Dakshina Kannada entitled “Modern Aquaculture Techniques”written in Kannada language was also released by the minister. Dr M NVenugopal, Dean, College of Fisheries, Mangalore presided over the function. Mr V K Shetty, Managing Director was the chief guest. Dr Jayaraj welcomed the gathering. Dr ShivakumarMagada presented a concept explaining the purpose of celebrating fish farmers’ day. Mr Mahesh Kumar, DD, Department of Fisheries proposed vote of thanks. Minister was felicitated by COFAA and thanked the minister for taking action for filling 42 Asst. Director of Fisheries posts in the department. The MD of KFDC Mr V K Shetty was also felicitated since he is superannuating 31st July 2017. Famers were given “Aquakit” containing fish seed, feed, pH paper. Integrated farmers were given Swarnadhara breed of backyard chicks developed by Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU), Bidar.

There were four success stories presented by the progressive farmers. Mr Kumar V Naidu, a successful agripreneur from Shimoga explained about integrated fish farming. Mr NareshHanbal shared his experience in integrated Farming Systems (IFS) in Malnad area. Both of them showed video clips and power point explaining successful implementation of many innovative ideas. Mr Sunny D’ Souja from Mangalore gave a talk Bio Floc Technology (BFT). He is doing shrimp farming in one acre in Haleyangadi, 20 km away from Mangalore. Using BFT he has harvested 17 t/acre of shrimp in 4 months, saving cost on energy and feeds. Mr Renold D’Souja, an alumnus of College of Fisheries, Mangalore and successful ornapreneur explained scopes in ornamental fish production and marketing. Dr ShivakumarMagada gave a talk on success stories of IFS from Mandya, Shimoga and Chikkamagalur districts of Karnataka. Mr Krishnaprasad shared his experience in fish culture in Urban Lakes i.e. Sanky Tank of Bangalore. Later Dr Jayaraj summarized all the presentations. There was a open house interaction at the end. Dr VijaykumarYargal, Deputy Director, Marine Product Export Development Authority (MPEDA), Karnataka and Goa region, Dr AsokKumar, Deputy Director, MPEDA, Dr VarunBagalodi, Consultant, Ornamental Fish Division, MPEDA, Mrs.Divya, Asst. Director of Fisheries (ADF), Mrs.SushmithaRao, ADF, Dr K S Ramesh, Mr Narayan, NETFISH were present in the program. The program was conducted in collaboration with Unibait Feeds, Rudra Techno Feeds, cFog.inc, Hyderabad, NETFISH, MPEDA, Asian Fisheries Society Indian Branch (AFSIB), College of Fisheries Alumni Association (COFAA) and Professional Fisheries Graduate Forum (PFGF), Mumbai.

International Yoga Day

The International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21 June, 2017 followed by a 1 week free yoga camp for staff and students of the college.  Sri. Jnaneshwar Nayak, Incharge of Patanjali Yoga Samithi for Karnataka state was the chief guest.   Sri. Govindaraya Prabhu, certified yoga trainer from the Patanjali Yoga Peeta, conducted the yoga classes.  While Dean Dr Venugopal, presided over the function.


International Day of Yoga & Yoga Camp - 2017

was celebrated in the College on June 21st, 2017 at 3.30 PM. The Yoga Day was inaugurated by Dr. Jnaneshwar Nayak (Incharge of Patanjali Samithi Haridwar for Karnataka), Dr. M.N. Venugopal (Dean-FIsheries) presided over the function, Dr. A.T. Ramachandra Naik (NSS Programme Officer, CoF, M'luru) briefed about the International Yoga Day, Dr. Mridula Rajesh (Staff Adviser) welcomed while Sri Shashidhar Badami (Staff Adivser) proposed vote of thanks. The function continued with Demonstration & Yoga camp was conducted by Sri Govindaraya Prabhu (Yoga Trainer, Patanjali Yoga Samithi Haridwar for Karnataka)



World Environment Day and World Ocean Day 

The Dept. of Aquatic Environment Management and National Service Scheme of College of Fisheries in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra has organized World Environment Day and World Ocean Day on 5th June, 2017 at 10.30 am in the Prof. HPC Shetty hall. 

Dr. ETA Srinivasulu, Snr. General Manager - Civil & Environment, MSEZ Ltd., Mangalore inaugurated the occasion and Dr. R. Shankar, Prof, Dept. of Marine Geology, Mangalore University was the Chief Guest.
Dr. M.N. Venugopal, Dean (Fisheries) presided over the function.

Staff, Research scholars and Students were present during the programme.


State level drama competition

Students of College of Fisheries, Mangaluru participated at State level drama competition organized by Department of Kannada and Culture and Rangayana, Mysuru during 5-6, Jan 2017 at Don Bosco Hall, Mangalur. Fishcos enacted the play "Geejagana Hakki" written by Dr Shivakumar Magada and Directed by Jagan Pawar, Sanketa, Mangaluru. 


College Day 2017

College day was celebrated on 28th April, 2017 at 4:00pm. Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, registrar Dr. H. Shivananda Murthy was the chief guest and Dean (Fisheries) Dr. M. N. Venugopal presided over the function. The occasion was followed by the presentation of annual report and awarding of the students who have achieved excellence in academics as well as co-curricular and sporting activities.The stage was then set for a variety of entertainment programs by the students, as they displayed their talent in front of a vibrant and enthusiastic audience. The cultural activities performed by the students’ exhibit their multifaceted talents.

International Women’s Day

The Girls/Women Grievance Reddressal Cell of the College of Fisheries, Mangaluru organized the International Women’s Day “SAAGARAKANYA- 2017” in collaboration with the Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Karnataka and Asian Fisheries Society Indian Branch, Mangaluru on 30-3-2017 at College of Fisheries, Mangaluru.  Kumari Nagalakshmi Baithe Chairpersonof Karnataka State Commission for Women inaugurated the programmeDr. H. Shivananda Murthy, Registrar, KVAFSU, Bidar was the chief guest.Sri Sundar Poojary, Deputy Director of Department of Women and Child Development and Dr B. A. Shamasundar, Secretary, AFSIB were the Guests of Honour.  Dr M. N. Venugopal, Dean of the College presided over the function.  Smt Anitha Kini one of the leading advocates of Mangaluru and Smt Vidya Dinker, Coordinator for Citizens Forum for Mangalore Development participated as resource persons. Ms. Anita Kini spoke on the use and misuse of the law by the people and how law can be used to protect women. Ms. Vidya Dinker focused on the cases of discrimination and explained the way forward in tackling the women issues.



Dr Shivakumar Magada, Professor of Aquatic Biology was one of the chief guests at Dakshina Kannada District Badminton tournament and distributed prizes to the winners on 05.02.2017 at US Malya Indoor Stadium, Mangaluru
