National Mathematics day
Government of India declared the Birth Anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan as National Mathematics Day. In this connection, The Department of Fisheries Economics, Statistics and Extension (FESE) College of Fisheries, organized a programme ‘National Mathematics Day’ on the occasion of 125th birthday of Sri Srinivasa Ramanujan on December 22nd 2018 at 11:00 in H.P.C Shetty Hall.
The event began with the invocation followed by the welcome speech of Dr. Somashekar, Prof and Head, Dept. of FESE. Chief guest Sri T Rajaram Rao ,The Principal, Vikas College, Mangalore inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp and also offered floral tributes to the great mathematician- Sri Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Sri T Rajaram Rao spoke during the programme whose words have were very encouraging and also briefed a review on the Life and Works of Ramanujan describing his simplicity.
Dr. H Shivanada Murthy, Dean, College of Fisheries, Mangalore to handed over a memento to Sri T Rajaram Rao ,The Principal,Vikas College as a token of gratitude for accepting the request and making his availability for the programme. The programmed was the followed by presidential remarks by Dr. H. Shivananda Murthy, Dean (Fisheries).
On this special day, the Dept. of FESE have organized a inter class quiz competition, Dr. Shivakumar Magada, Professor, Dept. of Aquatic Environment Management conducted the Maths Quiz competition. Students of all classes, actively involved and participated in the presentation.
Prizes were awarded to the winners, and the programme was concluded by Vote of Thanks by Miss Swathi, Asst. Professor, Dept. of FESE
All India Fisheries colleges cultural and sports meet The SHOAL -2018
All India Fisheries colleges cultural and sports meet The SHOAL -2018 was organized in College on 14th-15th December 2018.
‘SHOAL -2018’ meant- the large number of fish swimming together gives the same meaning that students from different fisheries colleges of India are performing and playing together. The objective of this 2 day meet washelp students to build good habits, confidence and discipline, ultimately help to be the community leaders, teach how to strive for a goal, handle mistakes and to cherish their growth opportunities.
Dr.Shivaprakash Prof and Head Dept. of FRM to kindly welcome the gathering. Dr.Ishwar, Honorable Vice Chancellor, Mangalore University to kindly inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp followed by his inaugural address. Dr.SrinivasaRao, Principal Sahyadri Engineering College Mangalore was the chief guest.
Dr.Shivaprakash, Prof and Head, Dept. of Fisheries Resources and Managementand Dr.ShivakumarMagada, Professor, Dept. of Aquatic Environment Management are the convenors for the meet.
Several events like Light Vocal, Mime, Group Dance, Badminton (Singles & Doubles), Chess, Swimming, Table Tennis, Quiz, Clay Modelling, Rangoli, Collage, Cartooning, Debate, Group Dance were conducted followed by the inaugural. Several Students from Fisheries Colleges participated and won laurels.
The “Fisheries Exhibition” was also organized in the campus to showcase the latest technologies in fisheries science and create awareness on schemes and initiatives of the fisheries research and developmental departments.

Brainstorming workshop on “Strategies for improving professional Fisheries Education in India”
Brainstorming workshop on “Strategies for improving professional Fisheries Education in India” is inaugurated on 13thDecember, 2018 in College at 10:00 am in College Auditorium. The main objective of this workshop is to review the present status and draw a strategic plan for next decade, the experts in the field of fisheries education, research and industry are invited to deliver a key note address and in the open house, the important issues bothering the education and research sector will be discussed.
Several fisheries experts all over the country were present for this Brainstorming Workshop.
Dr. S. Felix, Honorable Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University, Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu inaugurated the workshop by lighting the lamp. Dr. Gopal Krishna, Director and Vice chancellor, CIFE (Deemed University) Mumbai was the chief guest and addressed the gathering. DrVijaykumarYaragal, Deputy Director, MPEDA, Karwar was the Guest of Honour.
Dr. H Shivananda Murthy, Dean, College of Fisheries, Mangaluru presided over the function. Dr. Shivaprakash, Prof and Head, Dept. of Fisheries Resources and Managementand Dr. ShivakumarMagada, Professor, Dept. of Aquatic Environment Management were the conveners of the workshop.

College of Fisheries and Valencia, Jeppu & Ace Badminton Clubs, Mangaluru jointly organized DISTRICT LEVEL FISHCO CUP SWIMMING COMPETITION on Sunday, the 25 th November 2018 at 10.00 am at the Indoor Games Complex of the College
Sri A Sadananda Shetty, Chairman, Sri Devi Education Trust (R), President, D.K. District Badminton Association inaugurated the competition. Sri Praveen Bangera (Seaways Shipping & Logistics Ltd, Mangaluru). Sri C.E. Shephered (President, Shephered badminton Club, Thokottu, Mangaluru). Sri Pradeep D’souza (Deputy Director, Youth Empowerment and Sports, D.K. Mangaluru). Sri Ivan Patrao (General Secretary, D.K. District Badminton Association) were the chief guests. Dr. Shivananda Murthy, Dean (Fisheries) presided over the function. Sri Manoj Kumar, Head, Dept. of Physical Education was also present.
The inaugural programme was then followed by swimming competition . Several students from Dakshina Kannada participated in the Swimming competition.
Run For Fish! ‘Marathon’ to mark ‘World Fisheries Day 2018’
D.K. DISTRICT LEVEL FISHCO CUP BADMINTON TOURNAMENT – 2018
College of Fisheries, Mangaluru in association with Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University-Bidar, as part of “Fishco Golden Jubilee” organized ‘Marathon’ to mark ‘World Fisheries Day’ on Thursday, 22 November 2018 from Nehru Maidan, Mangaluru. The marathon commenced from Nehru Maidan, passed through Hampankatta, Jyothi, Kankanady Pumpwell and culminated at Fisheries College, Souterpet-Mangaluru.
The Marathon was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner of DK Sasikanth Senthil, in the presence of Dr H Shivananda Murthy- Dean, College of Fisheries; Dr Anjanayappa- coordinator of Marathon; Dr Shivakumar Magada- Professor and Associate Director of Extension, College of fisheries; and the event was compered by Dr Ramachandra Naik- Programme coordinator at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK). Nearly 250 fisheries college students along with their professors took part in the marathon.
Prior to the flag off, Dr Shivananda Murthy, Dean (Fisheries) briefed about the activities at the College, “The research activities those are undertaken so far as part of our commitment, and the scientific evidence we have generated as a result, are helping us to build a multifaceted picture of the socioeconomic and business case for supporting small-scale fisheries and, in doing so, raising their profile and visibility in the wider discourse of the sustainable development agenda”.
DC Sasikanth Senthil also speaking said, “Mangaluru is a vast coastal region, but not much has been done to improve it. College of Fisheries should take an initiative in developing the fishing industry, and help the fishermen in the latest technology. I am eagerly waiting to visit college of fisheries so we can chalk out a few plans for the betterment of the fishing industry and fishermen”.
After the Marathon ended, the inauguration of Badminton tournament and Swimming competition took place. Winners in the marathon were presented with attractive prizes.

Kannada Rajyotsava Day 2018
The 63rd Karnataka Rajyotsava was celebrated on 2nd November 2018 in College of fisheries with great pomp and joy to commemorate the Karnataka Formation Day.
Dr. Kishore Kumar C.K., Vice-Chancellor, Mangalore University was the Chief guest. Dr. Narendra Rai Derla, Asst. Professor and Head, Dept. of Kannada, Govt. First Grade Womens College, Puttur was the guest of Honour. They spoke about the importance of rich Kannada tradition and values to be inculcated among the young minds in preserving the tradition.
Dr. H. Shivanada Murthy, Dean (Fisheries) presided over the function. Staff Advisors Mr. Manoj Kumar and Dr. Suresh T. were also present.
The programme was then followed by the variety entertainment and culturals.
Golden Jubilee Fishco Fest - 2K18
A 3 day grand GOLDEN JUBILEE FISHCO FESTIVAL 2K18 was inaugurated in College of Fisheries, Mangaluru. It is a unique annual event was scheduled from 22nd to 24th October, 2018.
U.T Khader, hon’ble minister for urban development and housing, govt of Karnataka and district incharge minister, Dakshina Kannada was the inaugurator for the function. Dr.H.Shivananda Murthy, Dean (Fisheries) presided over the function. Staff advisors Shri Manoj Kumar (Asst. Professor PE) and Dr.Suresh T (Asst. Professor, AAH) were also present.
The programme was concluded by Vote of Thanks and then followed by the series of events.
Teams from various colleges across DK and Udupi participated in variety competitions.

Fresher’s Day 2018
Fresher’s day programme was held on 10.10.2018, the first year BFSC students were welcomed by the Final year BFSc students. Dr. Precilla D'Silva, Dean, Dept. of Biological Science, St. Aloysius College, Mangalore was the chief guest. She spoke about the recent developments in education to the students and the staff. The function was presided by Dr. H. Shivananda Murthy, Dean (Fisheries). The programmed was then followed by cultural activities by freshers and showcased their talents.
Golden Jubilee Workshop on "IPR and WTO Illusion in Fisheries"
A one day workshop was organzed on "Intellectual Property Rights and WTO issues with respect to Fisheries Domain" on 05-10-2018 at 2:300 pm in Prof. HPC Shetty Hall. This was organized in collaboration with Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Center (VTPC). GOK, Bangalore.
Ms. Prabhavathi Rao, Programme coordinator, WTO & IPR Relay Cell, VTPC was the Chief guest. Dr. Farah Deeba, Consultant, IPR issues and Mr. B. Vivek, IPR & Legal issues were the resource persons for the programme.
Workshop - Eco friendly Plastination Technology
A one day workshop on "An eco friendly plastination technology for preserving animal tissues and organs" is organized to benifit the staff and students on 29-9-2018 at 10:00 am by Dr. Ramakrishna, an Expert in Plastination.
The programme began with the welcome address by Dr. S.M. Shivaprakash (HoD, Dept. of FRM) followed by the introduction of chief guests by Dr. H. Shivananda Murthy Dean (Fisheries).
Mr. Doddamani M.L., Managing Director, KFDC, Mangaluru and Mr. H.S. Nissar, Managing Partner, Baraka Fisheries Ltd. Mangaluru were the Chief guests. They spoke about the importance of storing and preserving specimens and also appraised the great innovation by Dr. Ramakrishna to the nation as well the accessibility and low cost production technology have immensely helped the mankind.
Dr. M.N. Venugopal (Campus head) was the president of the function who also spoke about the importance. Vote of Thanks was proposed by by Dr. Anjaneyappa (Professor Drpt. of FRM).
The function was then followed by workshop demonstating the Plastination Technology.
All staff and Undergraduate & PG students were also present for the programme.
14th KVAFSU Intercollegiate Sports and Games meet 2017-18 at Veterinary College, Bidar.
Our students bagged the Overall Championship Trophy in 14th KVAFSU Intercollegiate Sports and Games meet 2018-19 held at Veterinary College Bidar from 19th to 24th September 2018.

Golden Jubilee Lecture series
College of Fisheries, Mangalore in co-operation with Association of British Scholars, Coastal Karnataka Chapter is organized a guest lecture on “What would be the Future Earth and the Fate of Coastal Seas”, which is related to “Climate Change and Global Warming” on 25th September 2018 at 5.00 PM at Prof. HPC Shetty Hall. The lecture was delivered by Renound International Expert Pr of. Tim Jickells, University of East Anglia.
Golden Jubilee Lecture Series
As Part of Golden Jubilee Lecture Series, a Guest lecture by Mr. Jayaprakash Rao, Former Regional Public Relation Officer DRDO and Author of Kalam Jeevana Dharma and translator for wings of fire into Kannada on the topic "Idea of Dr. Kalam about Youth Leadership and Role of Youngsters in Nation Building" was organised at 12.00 Noon on 19-09-2018.

Orientation programme for the newly admitted students of 1st BFSc was held on 17-09-2018 in Prof. H.P.C. Shetty Hall at 2:00 pm.
Prof. Ramesh K.G., Dean, Sahyadri Engineering College was the Chief Guest and Dr. A.V. Mallikarjuna, Professor, Yenepoya Medical College, Yenepoya University, Mangalore was the guest of honour.
The programme begun by welcoming the guests, then invocation followed by the lighting the lamp by dignitaries. Dr. H. Shivananda Murthy, Dean(Fisheries) presided the function and congratulated the students on obtaining admission in the college. He also informed the students about the code of conduct and briefed about the glorious college history and the facilities available in the college for the overall growth of the students.
The function was then followed by the guests' speech which motivated the Students describing the importance and fruit of professional degree programmes in modern world.
Dr. H. N. Anjanayappa, Professor and Asst. Registrar (i/c) was the programme co-ordinator.

Teachers day 2018
Teachers day was celebrated in the College on 11-09-2018. The programme begun with the invocation song and lighting the lamp by the invited guest. Dr. Padmanabha, Professor and Head, Department of Anesthesiology, Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, Yenepoya University was invited as the Chief Guest and Dr. Dayananda Naik, Finance Officer, Mangalore University, Konaje was the Gues of Honour for the Teachers' Day Celebration 2018.
The function was planned and organized by the students with the support and guidance of Dean, Dr. H.S. Shivananda Murthy and Staff Advisors Dr. Manoj Kumar and Suresh T. The guests appreciated the students effort in organizing the day and wished their best of future.
Independence Day 2018
The college celebrated the 72nd Indian Independence Day on a grand scale at premises on 15th August 2018. Dr. Girisha S.K. welcomed the gathering. Dr H. Shivananda Murthy, Dean (Fisheries) unfurled the tricolour and took the guard of honour. All the staff and students were present on occasion.

Prof. Dr. H Shivananda Murthy has taken over the charge of Dean, College of Fisheries, Mangaluru on July 29th 2018
Prof H Shivananda Murthy has taken over the charge of Dean, College of Fisheries, Mangaluru. He has earlier served as Registrar of Karnataka Veterinary and Fisheries University (KVAFSU), Bidar. He also worked earlier as Director of Extension at the same University at the Head Quarters Bidar for a full term of three years earlier. He was a faculty and former Professor & Head Department of Aquaculture, College of Fisheries, Mangaluru. He is an alumnus of the College of Fisheries, Mangaluru, obtained his Bachelor’s, Masters and Doctoral (Ph.D) Degree in Fisheries/Aquaculture from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. The Board of Management of KVAFSU), Bidar had decided that Prof Shivananda Murthy to take over as Dean of this prestigious college, which is in the year of Golden Jubilee and to organize the Golden Jubilee Celebrations in a befitting manner.
Prof Shivananda Murthy has guided 40 Research Scholars for their high-quality thesis research work as Research Guide in Aquaculture, Fisheries Sciences & Biosciences. He has strong research background and served as Principal Investigator of 17 major externally funded major Research Projects in the areas of Aquaculture/fisheries funded by International Foundation for Science, Sweden and other international and national funding agencies and brought substantial research grants to the University and created infrastructure facilities in the form of center of excellence in extension education, E-resources centers, fish/prawn hatcheries, ponds and laboratories.
Prof Murthy has published more than 200 publications, out of which 135 research papers in national and international refereed journals, 15 books and other publications. He had Post Doctoral foreign research assignments in advanced Universities namely, University of Stirling, Scotland, U.K; Texas A & M University, USA and University of Santiago, Spain, and had short term visits to Denmark, Singapore, Norway, Netherlands, Malaysia, Thailand, France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong and other countries in connection research & development works including Chairing of Technical Sessions and Presentation of keynote/lead papers in International Conferences.
CARPS: New Research Centre of KVAFSU, Bidar was inaugurated
Centre for Applied Research on Problematic Soils (CARPS): a new research unit of Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU), Bidar was inaugurated by Shri Venkatarao Nadagowda, Pro-chancellor and Minister for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Government of Karnataka on 17.07.2018. Minister also inaugurated the new “Mobile Soil and Water Laboratory (MSWL)” on the same day. Both were dedicated to the nation during the golden jubilee year of the College of Fisheries, Mangalore. CARPS is a new research centre under the administrative control of the, KVAFSU, Bidar. A 71 year old Agriculture Research Station (ARS) building at Fisheries College campus, Mangalore is upgraded to set up CARPS. Dr H D Narayanswamy, Vice Chancellor, KVAFSU, Bidar inaugurated “National Fish Farmers Day 2018”. Mr Vedavyasa Kamath, MLA, Mangalore South Constituency presided over the function. Smt. Dr Venugopal, Dean, CoF presented a concept note of golden jubilee and presented a memorandum to the Minister requesting for one time developmental grants. Minister also unveiled the Golden Jubilee logo of College of Fisheries. Dr Shivakumar Magada was honoured by the University authority for his effort in establishing this institute. Dr Supreetha, B U, Mr Channesh Patel, Ms Pooranashri compeered the program. Dr Shivaprakash, HoD, Department of FRM proposed vote of thanks.

Aquaculture Technician Training
A skill development program on Aquaculture Technician Training was organized by the Department of Aquaculture, College of Fisheries, Mangaluru with funding support from National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad for 25 participants of Dakshina Kannada for a period of 25 days from 12.06.2018 to 07.07.2018. The training covered various aspects of fish farming like pond reparation to grow-out of table fish. The training constituted 70 hours of theory and 130 hours of practical as envisaged by Agricultural Skill Council of India (ASCI).
Awareness programme for Fishermen 2018 by Meteorological Center
The Meteorological Center, Bengaluru has conducted a half day awarness workshop for the fisherman associations and fisheries officials on .
At a workshop on fisheries warning organised by the Meteorological Centre, Bengaluru, in association with Department of Fisheries and College of Fisheries on Wednesday, 27th June 2018 , Dr. M.N. Venugopal, Dean (Fisheries) said, fishermen should be aware of prevailing weather conditions before venturing into deep sea fishing.
Training on safety at sea should be imparted to all fishermen, to handle the inclement weather conditions in the sea. The fishermen should be equipped with latest communication systems while venting into fishing, he added.
He urged fishermen not to ignore the weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department while venturing into deep sea fishing. A holistic approach to safety management system is the need of the hour. An accident database needs to be maintained so that preventive measures can be taken to check mishaps next year.
Dr Venugopal said Fisheries and Port Department, Coast Guard and Navy should work in coordination in times of distress.
Fisheries Department Deputy Director Parshwanath said life jackets, GPS fish finder, and all safety equipment are mandatory in fishing boats.
Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, Meteorological Department, disaster management cells issue weather forecasts which are circulated among the fishermen community.
National Fish Workers Forum Vice President Vasudeva Boloor said that the government should work on pension for fishermen. Training should be imparted to all fishermen.
Stating that boat mishaps occur while entering the estuary, he said failing to take up the dredging work results in mishaps. Fisheries Ministry should be constituted separately, in the interest of the fishermen community. (9.6 lakh people in fishing)
Meteorological Centre (Bengaluru) Director Geetha Agnihothri said a total of 9.6 lakh people are engaged in fishing in the state. The total production from fisheries sector in 2016-17 was 11.4 million tonnes. Wind, salinity and inclement weather conditions have a major impact on fisheries.

World Environment Day and World Ocean Day 2018
World Environment Day and World Ocean Day 2018 was celebrated in collaboration with Dept. of Aquatic Environment Management- College of Fisheries, NSS, and Ministry of Environment and Forestry and Climate change, GoI, New Delhi and Anti Pollution Drive Foundation, Mangalore on 08-06-2018 at 2:30 pm in the Prof. HPC Shetty Hall with the theme "Prevent plastic pollution and encourage solution for a healthy ocean"
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Mahesh Kumar U, deputy director, Dept. of Fisheries, GoK, DK motivated the gathering, Aquatic life can be protected by preventing the dumping of plastic wastes into the sea.
Mr. Abdul Rehman was the chief guest also inspired and said that, segregating the plastic waste can help in greatly reducing the pollution.
Dr. M.N. Venugopal, Dean (Fisheries) presided over the function. NSS coordinator Dr. A. T. Ramachandra Naik was also present, Dr. Gangadhara Gowda, Programme coordinator welcomed the gathering.
The programme was followed by planting the saplings and thereafter cleaning of campus by the students and staff.

World Environmental Day 2018
The Ministry of Environment, Forest, Ecology & Climate change undertook cleaning of beaches and river stretches in the country. World Environment DAY Programme from 01.06.2018 to 05.06.2018 in Panambur and Malpe Beach of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district organized the event in association with Ministry of Environment, Forest, Ecology & Climate change, Govt. of Karnataka, District Administration, Dakshina Kannada & Udupi, College of Fisheries and Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru.
World Environment Day is celebrated on a tag line of “Beat plastic pollution”. World Environment Day Programme from 01.06.2018 to 05.06.2018 in Panambur Beach Mangalore and Malpe Beach Udupi in cleaning plastic wastage and creating awareness against usage of plastic, effecting the environment in participation with different Government departments, eco clubs, self help groups, associations and school, college children and local community.
The week-long Beach cleaning programme was launched on 1.6.2018, at Panambur beach. Different line departments of Environment and Ecology, Department of Fisheries and students of College of Fisheries, Sahyadri Engineering college, NGOs and the general public actively participated in the beach cleaning programme, a stretch of 3.0 km of the beach was cleaned.
Nearly two truckloads of plastic garbage was picked up from the beach and disposed of with the help of City Corporation. Dr S.M. Shivaprakash Dean, College of Fisheries, Mangaluru inaugurated and addressed the volunteers, he explained about the cleanness of the beaches and the negative impact of plastic on marine life. Dr S.R. Someshakar Professor, Dr Lakshmipathi M.T. Associate Professor, College of Fisheries, Mangalore were the coordinators of the programme. Dr Dinesh Kumar, Regional Director Environment, Utthappa S, Ministry of Environment, Mahesh Kumar Deputy Director Fisheries, Dr Srinivas Rao K. Principal Sahyadri college of Engineering and Management. Shreelatha U A, Academic Administrative Officer, Yateesh Bikampady, coordinator Beach Management Committee, officials from various school and colleges, Industrial staffs, Press and Media persons were present and lend their hands in cleaning the beach.

The College of Fisheries, Mangalore held its annual college day on 9th of April 2018.
The programme began by welcoming of the guests followed by lighting of the lamp,

Dr. U. S. Biradar, Director of Extension, KVAFSU, Bidar and Dr. M.N. Venugopal, Dean (Fisheries), College of Fisheries presided over the function.
Dr. Mridula Rajesh, Asst. Professor (FRM) & Staff Advisor, presented the annual college report highlighting the achievements of the college. The consistent performance of the college was appreciated by the dignitaries especially in the field of research and innovation.
Dr H. D. Narayana Swamy, in his rousing address, inspired the graduating students students to envision their future goals and to pursue it with dedication, commitment and perseverance. He stressed the importance of ceaseless learning in the profession and encouraged the students to pursue excellence in the field of research and innovation. He hoped that the novel graduates would achieve success in all their future endeavors and would return as proud alumni to their Alma Mater .
The guests of honor, who also spoke about confidence in the graduates to uphold the traditions of College of Fisheries, Mangalore by excelling in the upcoming exams and wished them success.
Prizes were distributed to the students who were excelled in academics and to the winners of various competitions held on account of College day. The function concluded by the vote of thanks followed by cultural programme.

Workshop on "Responsible Fisheries" by Dept. of Fisheries Resources and Management
Workshop on "Responsible Fisheries" organized by the Department of Fisheries Resources and Management on 21-03-2018 at 10:00 AM in the Prof. H.P.C. Shetty Hall.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. S.L. Shanubhogue, Former Director of Instruction, College of Fisheries. Dr. Prathibha Rohith, Head, Pelagic Fisheries Division, Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute was the Chief guest and Resource persons Mr. Mahesh Kumar, Asst. Director of Fisheries, Mangalore.
Dr. S.M. Shivaprakash, Professor and Head (FRM), College of Fisheries. were also present on the occasion.
Saagarakanya 2018 - International Womens Day day was celebrated in the college on 15-03-2018 at 3:00 am.
The program begun with a prayer song. Dr. Mridula Rajesh., Chairperson of Girls/Women Grievance Redressal Committee, welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest, followed by lighting of the lamp.
Prof. Hilda Rayappan, Founder & Director, Prajna Counselling Center, Falnir, Mangalore, was the chief guest, who motivated and inspired the women and girl students by her inspirational and energetic talk. She also focused the triumph of women and their importance in society as well as in every aspects of peoples life.
Dr. Gangadhara Gowda, In-charge Dean and Head of the Division, College of Fisheries, Mangalore, had presided over the function. The committee members were also present. The function continued with various cultural activities. The programme the concluded with the vote of thanks by Mrs. Vandana K., Asst. Professor (Statistics).
World Wetlands Day 2018
World Wetlands Day 2018 celebrated in the college by Karnataka Science and Technology Academy in collaboration with Department of Aquatic Environment Management(AEM), College of Fisheries on 2nd February 2018 at 10:00 am in Prof. H.P.C. Shetty hall.
Dr. H. Gangadhara Gowda, Head of the Divisions & Professor and Head - Department of AEM was the program coordinator, who welcomed the dignitaries with the brief introduction.
Dr. H. Shivananda Murthy, Registrar KVAFSU, Bidar and Dr. K.N. Ganeshaiah, Former Director of Instruction (PGS) UAS, Bengaluru were the Chief guests. Dr. M.R. Ravi, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Panchayat D.K. inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp along with other dignitaries.
Dr. M. R. Ravi and Dr. H. Shivananda Murthy spoke about the citizen duty towards safeguarding and sustaining of the wetlands for urban future, advantages etc. and motivated the audience. The function concluded by the Vote of Thanks by Dr. Lakshmipathi M.T., Associate professor. The function was followed by a talk by Dr. K.N. Ganeshaiah, which was extended throughout the day.
KVAFSU Inter-collegiate teacher's sports meet 2017-18
KVAFSU Inter-collegiate teacher's sports meet was held at the Basketball Court of the College on Friday, the 12th January 2018 at 10:00 am. The function began with the invocation song by Miss Chetana J. R. followed by the welcome speech by Dr. S.R. Somashekar.
The sports meet was officially declared by hoisting the KVAFSU sports flag by Dr. R.V. Prasad, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, accompanied by board members of the university, registrar, director of student welfare, director of extension and dean fihseries. Meanwhile Dr. R. V. Prasad addressed the inaugural by delivering a memorable speech. He stressed on the importance of sports not only for the Students but also for the Teachers and Non teaching staffs of the college and university. He had also motivated the minds about how sports can improve the quality of education and personal life.
Followed by the speech, the dignitaries released the KVAFSU calendar. Hon'ble board member Shri. Nagabhushan Kamthane, Dr. H. Shivananda Murthy Registrar KVAFSU, Dr. S.M. Shivaprakash Director of Extension also spoke about the importance of teachers participation in sports. Dr. M. N. Venugopal Dean (Fisheries) presided over the function.
Oath taking of the participants was fulfilled by Dr. S.K. Girisha, Asst. Professor (Fisheries Microbiology). The inaugural function was concluded and sports events were continued on for the day and next day.
The valedictory function was held on 13th January, 2018 at 7:30 pm with zeal and adoration. The function begun with the invocation by Miss Chetana followed by the welcome speech by Mr. Manoj Kumar, Asst. Professor Physical Education who was also the organizing the secretary for the function.
Dr. Shivanada Murthy, Registrar KVAFSU Bidar, Yashwanth Kumar, DSW KVAFSU Bidar, Dr. Indresh, President ATKVAFSU were the chief guests who addressed the gathering thereafter.
Dr. M.N. Venugopal, Dean (Fisheries) presided over the function. Dr. Shivanada Murthy distributed the prizes to the winners of the events and then lowered the Sports Flag. The program concluded by singing the National Anthem.

GOLD FISH 2018 - Cultural and Ethnic day celebrated in the college on 11-09-2018 at 10:00 am in the college auditorium.
The program begun with a prayer song by Miss Chetana. Dr. Shivakumar M., Chairman of Fine arts club, welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest, followed by lighting of the lamp.
Dr. Gangadhara Gowda, Head of the Division was the chief guest, who motivated and inspired the students by his valuable speech on this occasion.
Dr M N Venugopal, Dean, College of Fisheries, Mangalore, had presided over the function. Staff advisors Dr. Shashidhar Badami, Dr. Mridula Rajesh, Member of the Fine arts club Dr. Lakshmipathi M.T. was also present. The function continued with various cultural competitions and events. Student president Mr. Channesh finally proposed the vote of thanks.
This was an occasion for all our students to display their talents and also dress up in traditional attire. Various students displayed their talents in dance, singing and acting etc and various inter class competitions were also held.
