Director of Fisheries Sri. Ramacharya visited College of Fisheries, Mangaluru

Director of Fisheries Sri. Ramacharya visited the college and interacted with the Dean and the HoDs regarding the thrust areas for research. Requested the team to take up need based research programmes which have direct impact on the community, production, productivity and income. He is an outstanding alumnus belong to 1983-87 batch. He was honoured by the faculty for being occupied the highest position in the Department of Fisheries.

 

College of Fisheries, Mangaluru observed World Fisheries Day

The College of Fisheries celebrated World Fisheries Day on 21st November 2021 by organising technical sessions and cultural events relevant to fisheries. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Iddya Karunasagar, an eminent fishery microbiologist and FAO consultant, said that overexploitation of marine wealth and inland fish found in the natural environment should be stopped. On this occasion, the Additional Director of Fisheries (Inland) Mr. Dinesh Kumar H. Kaller said that the State Government has aimed at increasing the inland fish production from 2.51 lakh tonnes to 6 lakh tonnes by March 2022. He also added that the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana has various programmes to boost the fisheries sector. Deputy Inspector-General and Commander, Indian Coast Guard, Karnataka, Shri. S. B. Venkatesh reminded everyone that fish production has to be increased through a collective effort but it should be a sustainable effort. He said that this year the Coast Guard has rescued 210 fishermen who were in distress at sea. Dr. Iddya Karunasagar gave a talk on ``recent advances in aquatic animal health and environment management for sustainable aquaculture”. Dr. R. Ramesh, Director, National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM) from Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change delivered a lecture on ‘potential of blue economy in the country and development of fisheries’. Video and jingles on development of fisheries by   the Department of Fisheries and prepared by  CoFM were launched on the occasion. A report on ‘Rapid Assessment of Blue Economy in Karnataka‘ was also released. Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, Director (R&D), Nitte University Centre for Science, Education and Research also spoke on the occasion. Students from various colleges of Mangaluru took part in the inter collegiate fisheries

 

CoFM celebrated Independence Day 2021 :- The 75th Independence day was celebrated on August 15, 2021 at CoFM. Dr A. Senthil Vel, Dean, CoFM hoisted the national flag in the presence of staff and students of the college. As part of the Independence day celebration, a painting competition was organized for the staff members. The whole celebration was conducted by keeping COVID-19 protocol.

 

College of Fisheries, Mangaluru (CoFM) participated in Workshop on Modern Technologies in Fish Farming :-

The workshop was organized by the Department of Fisheries, Government of Karnataka (GoK) at KVG College, Sullia, Dakshin Kannada. Shri. S. Angara, Hon’ble Minister of Fisheries, Ports and Inland Transport, GoK inaugurated the workshop in the presence of Director, Department of Fisheries; Dean, CoFM, Members of Taluk Panchayat, Sullia and other dignitaries on September 04, 2021

 

CoFM celebrated Ganesh Chathurthi 2021

Ganesh Chthurthi was celebrated in the College with all the festivities. It was organized by fourth year B.F.Sc. students. Ganesh Pandal was arranged in the Boys hostel and  all the staff and students were served with a sumptuous vegetarian feast on the third day. Every one bid farewell to Ganpati Bappa on the same day and send him in procession. Ganapati visarjan was done in the nearby KVK pond. This year’s celebration was named as “Parva 2020-21”.

 

International Coastal Cleanup Day 2021

The programme was organized by the Department of Fisheries Economics, Statistics and Extension, College of Fisheries, Mangaluru in association with National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR), Chennai under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) New Delhi. There were about 150 students along with the staffs actively participated in the program.

Minister S. Angara laid the foundation stone for the "Ultra-modern Aquaculture" and construction of Mathsya Darshini Canteen and Inaugurated the Fishing boat on the premises of the College of Fisheries Mangalore.
