World Environment Day (WED) 2015

At the joint aegis of Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, department of aquatic environment management (AEM) and NSS – College of Fisheries, here in collaboration of Karnataka Ecology and Environment, Professional Fisheries Graduates Forum, World Environment Day was celebrated at Professor H P C Shetty hall, College of Fisheries, here on Thursday June 5 at 2.15pm.  It was themed as Raise your voice; not the sea level.

Mangalore – Green Belt advisor Dinesh Naik Vittal and Karnataka department of environment and forests regional director (environment) Nagaraj were the chief guests of the occasion.

College of Fisheries dean Dr K M Shankar presided the programme.

College of Fisheries – department of AEM Professor Dr Shivakumar M, department of fisheries assistant director Mahesh Kumar and College of Fisheries NSS programme officer and associate Professor Dr A T Ramachandra Naik were present at the dais.

Dinesh Naik Vittal along with dignitaries inaugurated the programme.

Dinesh Naik briefed on abundance of natural resources that are available to mankind but due recklessness it’s threatened to go extinct.  He demonstrated through PowerPoint presentation the perils of environmental destruction and urged the gathering to nurse a few plants in their backyard.  The small effort by a group of people can make a lot of difference because many people would do so, said Dinesh Naik.

Dr Mahesh Kumar laid emphasis on changing attitude that would leads to lifestyle change, to save mother earth that is being overburden with pollution of all sorts which in turn contribute for global warming with consequences of rise in sea levels threatening metros and towns located in coastal regions across the world.   

Dr K M Shankar said that people have totally ignored their surroundings which is not so in western countries who are sensible for greenery.  The pooling of automobiles is yet to become a reality in Indian cities and towns, which could curb green house gases to a certain extent.  A small beginning can lead to revolution in environmental conservation.

Devadiga invoked blessings of God.  Professor Dr Shivakumar M delivered the introductory address.  Dr Ramachandra Naik proposed vote of thanks.  Livi Wilson compered the programme.



International Yoga Day Celebration 2015

To commemorate 'International Day of Yoga' , The National Service Scheme unit of  of the College in collaboration with `Pranava Yoga and Naturopathy Centre' Mangaluru had celebrated the 'International Yoga Day' at 12.15 PM on 20th June, 2015 in the College Auditorium. Dr. Rajesh Padekal. Managing Trustee from Pranava Health Trust was the Chief Guest of the programme. 


Fish Carnival 2015 

The ‘Fish Carnival’, also called the ‘Matsyotsava’ held at Lake Pilikula, Vamanjoor on 17th May. The event was organised mainly to entertain Mangalore Tourism and Fishing.


Prestigious National Chanakya Award to Dr Shiavakumar Magada , Professor of Aquatic Biology

Dr Shiavakumar Magada have been awarded the prestigious “National Chanakya Award for Academic Excellence” for the year 2015 for his contribution towards profession, industry and society. This award was given by the Public Relation Council of India on 13.3.2015 at Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
